Job Description - Role and Responsibilities
 

The Management Team is the supervising authority of the Musical director.

Role and Responsibilities

  • Plans and implements the musical program of the chorus:
    • Teaches members to sing four-part harmony, barbershop style
    • Assesses the musical qualifications of prospective members
    • Determines musical eligibility of members for singing engagements, shows and competition
    • Chooses, trains and leads a team of musical leaders to assist in carrying out the musical program, including Assistant Directors, Section Leaders, Recording Evaluators, Creative Team, Visual Team
    • Assumes or delegates  responsibility for aspects of chorus performance including: standing positions, music, order of program and emcee
    • Selects music for competition that meets  all Sweet Adelines requirements
    • Collaborates with the show chair and creative team to plan and direct chapter shows
    • Encourages participation of chapter members in quartets
    • Selects coaches and arranges multiple coaching sessions each year
    • Prepares and directs weekly rehearsals (or provides suitable replacement, in the event the director cannot attend). Communicates weekly plans, including sectionals, and determines timing and content for sectionals.
    • Directs the chorus at all performances, chapter shows and competition (or provides suitable replacement, in the event the director cannot attend)
       
  • Participates as member of the Chorus Management Team
    • Brings recommendations of the Music Team to the Management Team for decision and action
    • Pursues continuing education on directing a chorus, including pursuing certification through the director certification program offered by Sweet Adelines International
    • Attends, when possible, and promotes chorus member attendance at regional and international educational events
    • Reviews past performances of River Blenders and related score sheets as well as past performances of other champion choruses to better understand the Sweet Adelines competition process and scoring. 

  • Ensures that all roles and responsibilities are conducted in accordance with the Sweet Adelines Code of Conduct, Chapter Standing Rules and terms of the Musical Director Agreement (Contract).

  • Participates in an annual performance review with the input of the Management and Music Teams

Consider making a donation in honor of a past or present chorus member!
 



Adopt-A-Singer - Supporters can "adopt" a new chorus member by covering the cost of their first year's expenses, including costumes and competition meals. This helps remove financial barriers for new singers.  

  • Competition expenses, costume expenses, competition travel expenses, etc. $200 - $500

Harmony Heros - Supporters can donate towards the creation of custom learning tracks for the chorus. These personalized audio files are invaluable for helping new members learn their parts.  

  • “Custom” Learning Tracks: $300 - $500
  • “Pre-Published” Learning Tracks: $100 - $200

Chorus Champs - Supporters can sponsor the chorus's competition expenses, ensuring the group is well-fed and prepared to deliver their best performance.

  • Unity Breakfast/Chorus Dinner: $500 - $1,000
Note-Worthy Neighbors - Supporters in the local community can "adopt" a piece of sheet music, covering the cost to keep the chorus's music library up-to-date and ready for learning.
  • Sheet music for chorus (3 x year) $200/each song: $600

Pitch Perfect Patrons - Supporters can make a general donation towards the chorus's operational expenses, providing flexible funding to address the group's most pressing needs.

  • $50 - $500
     



By donating to the River Blenders Chorus, a non-profit organization, you are helping women of all ages participate in an organization that promotes unity, harmony, development of talent, and enjoyment for both singers and the general public through rehearsals, competitions and performances. 

Donations in any amount is greatly appreciated and will help the Blenders cover music education, general operating budget, coaching and our youth programs such as "Sing For Scholarships" and "Shop For The Ring."
